Hair loss in women
Female hair loss, understood before it is treated
Hair loss in women may present very differently to men, including increased shedding, loss of volume, widening of the parting or more generalised thinning. Understanding what is contributing to the change is particularly important here.
How it tends to present
- Increased or sudden shedding
- Loss of volume and density
- Widening of the parting
- Diffuse thinning across the scalp
- Localised or patchy hair loss
- Changes in scalp health or hair quality
What may be contributing
Hormonal changes, menopause, postpartum shedding, stress, nutritional factors, genetics, general health and scalp conditions may all warrant consideration.
Two people experiencing what appears to be similar hair loss may require very different approaches. Where further medical investigation or referral is advisable, this may be recommended before treatment begins.
What we would do
Begin with a hair and scalp consultation and a microscopic assessment, so we can look at the scalp and the hair that remains rather than guessing from the surface. From there, stabilise, support the existing hair through a personalised programme, and reassess with a like for like comparison against your baseline images.
